Wheel of Time is practically on-topic on this blog, anyway.  Here's the cover of the next book:

Great thing about WoT is that the first 6-7 books are so epic that you are committed even when say book 8 and 10 are total doldrums. Many more hits than misses, thankfully.

Kinda like Dune, actually. I felt Messiah was kind of meh, and God Emperor was a bit WTF, but Heretics and Chapterhouse were ace.

Man, I can't help but feel that Kmart is being a little underhanded here with their raincheck system.

I tried to get in on their sale of FFXIII for $30 but they were out of stock, so I was given a raincheck. Well, it has been about 2 weeks now and all the Kmarts in my area have mysteriously stopped stocking the game.

Either all of their inventory is being diverted to fulfill their backorders online, or they are intentionally withholding restocking the store shelves until all of the rainchecks they issued have expired. I guess time will tell...

That sucks. Is the rain check only good for FFXIII? I wouldn't think the game would be that hard to keep in stock. I'm pretty sure SE was expecting it to sell more than it did in the second month.

Yep, raincheck is only good for FFXIII. If they suddenly have the game back in stock for full price after all rainchecks expire (mid June), then I think that is a pretty strong indication that they withheld stock to avoid honoring them.

Who knows, maybe Kmart is restocking and the other customers with rainchecks are zipping into the store and snatching up all the copies as soon as they arrive. Seems kinda unlikely though given that this would have to be occurring simultaneously at 3 Kmarts in my area and there have been a number of AAA releases in the past week to draw attention and sales away from FFXIII.

BTW, I'm amazed that Monster Hunter Tri is the #1 message board for the Wii on gamefaqs.com. I thought for sure Mario Galaxy 2 would be in that position.

Makes sense. Monster Hunter is a game where no one has a fucking clue what they're doing at first, and constantly need to be talking to other people for hints or to arrange co-op.

Mario, though, is pretty much entirely single-player, and I think most gamer-types will either never be stumped at all or need to do more than talk about how good the game is online.

Makes good sense, I just didn't see "Tri" selling that well outside of Japan to have a big enough following. In contrast, if half the Wii owners pick up mario 2 and only want to talk about how great it is, I would have still expected it to blow "Tri" out of the water in terms of message board traffic.

Yeah, I wonder how much Tri has sold. There was an ad for it in front of Prince of Persia at the theater yesterday (one for SMG2, also).

It's first month in NPD was 126k, at no. 11 in the chart.
