2025 Gaming

2025 was an odd one. I spent some time with Elite: Dangerous, and have dove back into FFXI again after another short stint in FFXIV. It does not serve as an adequate replacement to me, at least not for all aspects of why I like XI.

I started the year out strong with tabletop gaming, but then fell off drastically in the second half, after the third edition of Horus Heresy came out, which is odd considering it is my favorite game and also the one I worked the most on hobby-wise this year. Both Age of Darkness and Legions Imperialis and Adeptus Titanicus scales.

I still need to upgrade my gaming PC, but the recent announcement of Steam Machines has me really intrigued. I wonder whether I should buy one of those instead, and make a foray into using Linux as well.

On the tabletop side, I've mostly cut out buying new model kits in the latter part of the year, being preoccupied with FFXI but also a bit burnt out on hobby. I still have a huge amount of stuff on the shelf unpainted, though. I don't have any immediate hobby plans, since I am in a place where I have about everything I need to play Heresy, big or small.

That's about where I am as of the beginning of 2026. I realize updates to this blog have been sporadic. I'd like to be more regular about them. I'll try to remember that going forward. I have no idea where gaming will take me in this new year, but I plan to play a lot more FFXI for the time being, and hopefully to get some Horus Heresy 3rd edition in soon. I'll need to set up a table at home to learn the game, probably in the next week or two.
