2010 Game Of The Year & Recap

My game of 2010:  Mass Effect 2
Runner-up: Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow

I took down 23 games in 2010, which is pretty good, I think, though I know I could have done better.

Games finished in 2010:
Bayonetta
Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines
The Witcher
Civilization V
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
Starcraft (Protoss)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Alien Swarm
Call of Duty
inFAMOUS
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Super Mario Galaxy
Planescape: Torment
Torchlight
Starcraft (Zerg)
UniWar
God of War
Far Cry 2
Mass Effect 2
Vagrant Story
Yakuza 2
Metroid: Zero Mission

Past years totals:
2009: 19
2008: 26
2007: 15

I've got a big 2011 ahead; in addition to having a baby, I'm going to be doing more writing and job hunting on the side, so I'm going to go ahead and set a more realistic goal of finishing one game a month on average.  This will of course mean focusing more on games I want to complete, but I'm sure I'll get plenty of variety in there.  Also, with the epic amount of games I bought in 2010 (around 120!), I need to work on both playing a bunch of those, and buying less overall.

I'm going forward with 2 out, 1 in, with indulgences for games under $20, but I do plan to be more selective, considering my massive, incredible backlog of games.  Help me thin out the pile by voting for games I'll play in the Resolution feature of Call Of Podcast!

Happy 2011, everyone!

Happy New Year Count! Grats on finishing off Bayonetta before 2011.

I just beat Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom today with help from the Fiance. Got some pretty decent gamerscore too. They were very generous at the end granting 180 points all together just for beating the final boss.

Thanks! I hope you guys have an excellent 2011!

Speaking of gamerscore, I'm inches away from 10K! I thought finishing Bayonetta might put me over, but it'll probably be Reach that does it now.

I'm sure you've seen the $9 Splinter Cell Conviction sale by now. I hate that series but it is oddly taking some will power for me not to bite at that price.

That's a tough price to beat, especially for a 360/PS3 game. Figuring in the separate co-op campaign, I'm sure it's well worth it.

I'm just not interested in it, and have way, way to much to play already! If I didn't have work tomorrow I'd sit up all night playing Fallout...

Wow, you are tearing through the backlog like a madman. I need to be more like the Count!

heh, I just got on a tear with Fallout this weekend. Once I got caught up in the game and figured out how close I was to the end, I had to finish it off. It actually wasn't too long of an rpg; only maybe 20 hours or so, if I had to guess.

Surprised to see C:LoS as your runner up but it was a sweet game. You on board for the upcoming DLC?

Have to say I am 100% with you on Mass Effect 2. Dang what a game - I burned through it in a few days because it was so compelling. Loved the characters, story, gunplay - and it fixed basically every issue I had with ME1.

Yeah, I'll definitely be getting the Castlevania DLC. I wonder if we'll ever see a sequel...

I haven't played any of the ME2 DLC yet; I've kind of been saving that for the run-up to ME3.

If they do a sequel it better not be modern day, but surely there's no way they would depart from the formula that much.

ME2 is actually getting one more DLC this year to ramp up the story to ME3, so you might play the existing DLC now.
