Games I Can't Afford

This Fall is, like any Fall, nuts for games. Bear with me while I think this through...

  1. Batman - waiting for price drop
  2. ODST - bought
  3. Demon's Souls - price drop
  4. Brutal Legend - price drop
  5. Uncharted 2 - waiting for price drop/later
  6. Borderlands - bought
  7. Torchlight - bought
  8. Dragon Age - later
  9. Fallout 3 GOTY Edition - later
  10. Modern Warfare 2 - price drop/later
  11. Assassin's Creed 2 - price drop
  12. Left 4 Dead 2 - inevitable Steam price drop
I think that covers about all I'm interested in this Fall. There are still a ton of other games that have already come out this year that I want, though, like Killzone 2, Dawn of War II, Shadow Complex, and many more.

I've also got to work out the games I'm going to be playing. I've got a huge buffet of games that I've stepped into and are awaiting my return. I'm concentrating on Yakuza 2 at the moment, but I've got to figure out what's going to be next once I'm done with it. Maybe Starcraft is a good choice, especially when I'm in Japan next month.

Update: Well, it looks like I'm picking up Dawn of War II for $20 on Steam today in a half-off sale.

Update 2: Decided to pull the trigger on Borderlands and Torchlight via Steam sales and positive word of mouth.

I'm probably going to pick-up demon's souls today instead of Uncharted 2.

I've always had a weakness for epic boss battles and from what I have heard, this game has them.

It is good to see more original games that make it necessary to own the PS3 platform.

Cool! Be sure and let me know what you think.

I played about 3 hours of Dawn of War II yesterday. If you like tactical games, it's a good choice.

Hey guys. Enjoyed the podcast again as usual.

Spent less than 15 minutes with Demon's Souls yesterday but I was impressed by the "artsy" feel of the intro if that counts for anything (which it shouldn't!).

I chose a magician and got to throw a few fireballs. I was slightly disappointed that my magician looked like a warrior with a kitchen knife and a shield but oh well. Maybe I can get my robe with lucky charms symbols on it later in the game?

Sweet, glad we have at least one consistent listener! After a few more weeks I'll probably get a site and RSS/itunes for the show, toward the end of November, I think, after this trip to Japan coming up.

I'll look for you online for some firefight this week.

BTW, I read that the magician is like hard mode in that game, for what it's worth.

Yikes! The game is allegedly hard enough without handicapping yourself. Maybe I should reconsider my class for the first playthrough.

BTW, Dawn of War II for xbox wasn't even on your list! What gives? I did a quick check for a review but kept coming up with Warhammer ###### etc etc for pc.

I will try to be online for some Firefight around 8 or 9 pm tomorrow, possibly sooner if I can escape the tractor beam at work!

lol, yeah, Dawn of War is PC only, but since it uses GFW Live you sign in with your usual Live gamertag and you can get achievements, which is cool, but the downside is that all multi-player games are apparently match-made peer-to-peer instead of having dedicated servers, so you still get lag like you see in Halo or Gears when the host's connection sucks.

I know Fallout 3 for PC is also GFW Live with achievements, but I'm not sure what other games are.

Looking forward to some Halo!

Another entertaining podcast guys. Don't worry about revealing that I live in SF. I've got that info in my xbox live bio for all to see.

I almost, ALMOST, went for Best Buy's b2g1 deal but when it came down to it, I just didn't have 2 titles I'd be willing to spend $60 on that I haven't already bought with trade-in credit or pre-ordered with gift cards and credit vouchers.

I would really only feel good about paying full price for Uncharted 2. I think I can wait for some of the other currently available titles to drop to $30. I'm picking up Forza 3 tomorrow anyways so I should really just focus on getting my time in on that title. I don't want ignore this racer like I did Forza 1-2 and Motorstorm II.

How's Demon's Souls going?

Oh, and you might find a good deal at Amazon right now, they are doing a thing where if you spend $80 on eligible games (there are a ton) you get a $40 credit toward more games.

I'm trying to finish that first Halo novel since the new Wheel of Time book comes out today, lol. I'll probably have impressions of it on the next show, as well as Borderlands and Torchlight.
